We found a use for the treat jar dust!

You know all that treat dust and broken bits of biscuit that collects at the bottom of your dogs treat jar? The bits that seemingly have no use? Don’t throw it away!

This little life hack will help reduce waste and keep your pooch entertained with some mental stimulation. It always felt like such a waste tipping the little bits of dust away, but then I realised – they could actually be used as part of enrichment. In fact, it’s not too dissimilar to a product that LickiMat have on the market.

LickiMat have a range of ‘sprinkles’ in various flavours, which The Scamps had as a Christmas present. These are just crushed biscuits that can be sprinkled on top of a LickiMat and away they go. So instead of binning the little bits of leftover treats from the bottom of the jar – give them their own jar or container, and use them for something fun!

We spread peanut butter, or natural yoghurt onto Phoebe and Frank’s LickiMats and then sprinkle some of the treat dust onto them. This can then be put in the freezer for extra licking time. We even added some sprinkles to Phoebe’s birthday cake – which seems the perfect use for them, too! The treat dust could also be sprinkled on top of food for extra palatability, as there will be a whole host of flavours combined in the bottom of the treat jar.

The treat dust could be incorporated into other treats, such as homemade biscuits, or added to some frozen treats for summer.

The pawsibilities are endless, and it’s such a fun, free creative way to create zero-waste enrichment for your dog – what else could we use it for? Let us know in the comments!
