Coya’s freeze-dried food toppers that are a great introduction to raw

Here at Lady & The Scamps we’ve reviewed hundreds of products over the years, but there’s one that’s just elevated our mealtimes to new heights. Phoebe and Frank are typically fed a kibble diet, but we are always looking for new ways to make their meals more exciting from time to time, whether that’s by adding supplements, yoghurt, or wet meat, or switching to an enrichment feeder.

The latest mealtime addition we’ve discovered comes from the brand Coya, and it’s their Freeze-Dried Raw Food Toppers, which are perfect for fussy pets. Phoebe in particular can go through phases where she skips breakfast, but since introducing Coya to mealtimes, it’s been clean bowls all round.

Coya is a brand on a mission to make raw feeding as easy and as accessible as possible for all pet owners, and while we’re not in a position to feed raw full-time, their toppers are a great way to incorporate raw goodness into your dog’s diet, even if your pet isn’t on a raw plan.

Inspired by the OG freeze-drying process by the Ancient Incas in Peru, Coya is named after the Inca Queen, bringing the historic food preservation method into the 21st century with modern technology. The brand takes raw ingredients and removes the water with the freeze-drying process, with no cooking or heating involved, resulting in a raw final product that retains its vital nutrients with no need for freezer space, defrosting or mess.

The Coya toppers are currently available in three flavours, including beef, chicken and fish, all of which boast a 97.5% meat content that’s topped up with fruit and vegetables. Each of them is made with premium, human-grade ingredients and are single protein which makes them naturally hypoallergenic, with no artificial flavours and preservatives meaning they’re more gentle for dogs with sensitivities and intolerances.

The toppers are packed full of goodness with each of the flavours selected for the benefits, with beef helping dogs maintain muscle health and vitality through its natural blend of zinc, iron, selenium and vitamin B12, B3 and B6. Meanwhile, the chicken recipe is a great source of amino acids, selenium, iron, zinc and copper, with the fish variety being rich in omega-3 fatty acids, known to support healthy skin and coat, reduce inflammation and promote brain development.

Coming in at £3.99 each, these 50g tubes are said to last 12 mealtimes, but depending on how much you sprinkle on, it could be much more. The packaging is designed like a spice bottle with two small holes that are the perfect size for shaking the meaty sprinkles onto meals, and helps keep the scent locked in the tube, too. And if like me you’re someone who enjoys a spot of baking for their pooch, too, they’re perfect for decorating pupcakes with, too!

Whether you feed raw or not, the Coya Freeze-Dried Raw Food Toppers are such a great way to ensure your dog demolishes their dinner each and every time. They’re a wonderful introduction to incorporating raw into your dog’s mealtimes if you’re raw-curious, as well as making for a tasty but nutritious treat for your pet. We particularly love mix and matching the flavours to make fun combinations that will make mealtimes much more interesting and irresistible for your pet. We can’t wait to try out their range of treats next!
