When visiting the McArthurGlen West Midlands designer outlet on the day of its grand opening back in April, one thing I noticed was just how dog friendly it is.
The £160 million development, in Cannock, saw no expense spared – and that meant for their furry visitors too! My favourite addition to the designs was the adorable doggy drinking stations, which are really ornate and stand-out. These are identified by a life-sized dog statue, indicating the pawfect pitstop between shops.
At the outlet, over half the stores allow dogs inside, and there is outdoor – and undercover outdoor – seating for food outlets like Five Guys, Starbucks and Wagamama.
So if you’re looking for some new Joules wellies for muddy walks, or a waterproof coat from Mountain Warehouse, then you can pop in with your pooch and bag up to 60 per cent off the RRP. Other brands which allow your dog inside the sore include Portmeirion and Denby – but be careful of those waggy tails! Some of the stores allow dogs in if they’re being held – I think I’d struggle with 45kg of bull-breed, but smaller pooches could be carried in.
There are only 17 of over 40 stores that don’t allow dogs inside – so overall, it’s a pretty dog-friendly village. Plus, your dog will love lying by the water feature in the warm weather.
Just remember – never leave your dog in the car. In April, police were called to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands car park twice to reports of dogs in cars. Not only does this make them a target of theft, but it puts them at the fatal risk of heatstroke. When the site is so welcoming to four-legged visitors, it’s just not worth leaving them out of all the fun.
