Primark pet toys review – plus a sneak peek at the Disney range

It was only a matter of time before Primark cashed in on the growing pet market. With 3.2 million households in the UK acquiring a pet since the start of the pandemic, its no wonder the industry is booming.

When I visited our local Primark the other week, we spotted just one unit of pet products – but said stand was absolutely packed full of accessories, grooming products, toys and beds. There was a variety of toys to choose from – including a training treat dispenser, rope tug, and a rubber bone, all priced at £3 each, but it was these adorable animal squeaky toys that caught my attention.

These two toys were £4 each, so I bought Phoebe the bunny, and Frank the bear. I knew they wouldn’t last particularly long, as toys like these seem to be destuffed quite rapidly, but I liked the fact that the ears were stitched on separately, so wouldn’t automatically cause a tear in the toy. Frank tends to hone in on things like ears and tails, and once there is a defect, he can tear it apart in a matter of minutes.

The toys are made of a quilted fabric, and have piping around the edges holding them together. They’re stuffed with regular plush stuffing, and contain a large squeaker – much to Phoebe’s delight. Naturally, it took Phoebe a little longer to disembowel her bunny teddy, but once she did, she was very pleased with herself.

Another thing I really liked about these toys were that they seemed to have a layer of mesh fabric inside, which added a little extra support and durability. Frank’s teddy lasted about 20 minutes, whereas Phoebe’s lasted about half an hour before the lounge was covered in white fluff. Of course, for smaller, less destructive breeds, they’d make a brilliant toy.

Also included in their pet range was a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, a detangling spra/pawfume, a selection of grooming brushes and drying towels. They also stocked the cutest little raincoats (albeit I could only really see small sizes), and harnesses. But Disney-fans can also get their paws on a number of Disney x Primark pet products, from Stitch drinking bowls, to Mickey and Minnie beds. There are also Disney collar and lead sets, outfits and bandannas.

I bought a pack of two Mickey Mouse bandannas for £4 in a small size, as they seemed pretty generous in size. These are part of the Primark Cares range, made of recycled plastic, and features two designs. One is a classic Mickey Mouse on a grey background, and the other is Earth with Mickey Mouse ears, with the slogan ‘be kind to our planet’, on a sand background. They’re not the best quality but the small size did fit their collars and looked pretty cute, working out at £2 each.
