What’s in the Hounds Chew Box? August 2020

The Hounds Chew Box is a box full of natural goodies for your pooch to enjoy.

It launched in July 2018, and after a successful, sell-out trial, it’s become a monthly must-have for its subscribers.

Each month the Hounds team hand picks a selection of natural chews and treats from their in-store range – from chicken feet to pig snouts. Their Pick ‘n’ Mix table is a firm favourite with furry visitors, so they’ll love the chew box!

All of the treats included in the box are suitable for puppies and dogs over 12 weeks old – but be reminded to always supervise your pet with chews and treats.

Anya Sczcur started the independent dog shop Hounds after realising how many nasties and toxins there were in pet products on the market. She wanted to provide a space to educate dog lovers and offer them the best quality products at low prices.

The Hounds Chew Box costs £8.49 as a one-off purchase, but if you subscribe to the monthly deliveries, you can bag it for £8.07 a month – saving you 5%!

Each month, the value of the box is around £10, so you’re saving more than if you purchased separately too.

This August 2020, the Hounds Chew Box includes:

  • JR Duck Pate
  • A Chicken Foot
  • A Pigs Ear
  • An Ostrich Straw

The JR Pate is made from 100% duck and is a great source of protein for dogs. Because it’s such a versatile product, you can use it in so many interesting ways for your dog, like spreading on a LickiMat, filling a Kong or topping their dinner.

Phoebe and Frank love chicken feet, and they’re an amazing, inexpensive natural chew.

Chicken feet cost around 40p and keeps them good for about five to ten minutes. Hounds sell two different kinds of chicken feet – puffed and dried. The dried feet are crispy and feel more oily – whereas the puffed feet remind me of rice cakes. They contain fatty acids which aids a shiny coat, and helps keep teeth clean. Phoebe has a sensitive tummy, and these suit her really well.

Pigs ears are, of course, 100% pork and contain almost 70% protein. Pick pigs ear over rawhide as a natural, no-nasty treat, with no artificial additives or preservatives.

If you thought the pigs ear had high protein, then wait till you hear about the ostrich straws.

These JR air-dried ostrich trachea contains 99.98% protein, alongside natural fats and oils. They’re a super lean treat and low in fat, as well as responsibly sourced. Hounds recommend these for older dogs because they’re super chewy.
