The £8 moose skin treats that last enthusiastic chewers over an hour

Over the years we’ve tried a myriad of natural chews from buffalo skin and pizzle sticks, to puffed pig snouts and cow udder. And just when we thought we’d heard it all, we discovered Moose Skin chews.

Few treats stand up to the tenacity of my two large overly enthusiastic chewers, with the best we’ve found lasting 10 minutes at most. Being able to take a treat off Phoebe and Frank for another day is practically unheard of – but these moose skin treats survived four chomping sessions, each lasting around 15-20 minutes.

We picked the RAUH! Moose Hide Dog Chews from Hounds for £8 each, and I have been incredibly impressed with their durability, with Phoebe and Frank giving them the paw of approval, too.

Sustainability and quality is at the heart of RAUH!’s brand values, made from 100 per cent genuine Nordic moose hide using the most expensive part of the skin which also happens to be the most durable, too. The natural chews – made from a single piece of hide – are manufactured at Europe’s only factory that specialises in dog chews, in Loimaa, Finland, using a traditional drying method that’s been used since 1989.

The brand said: “They are made from the entire moose hide, including the upper layer, which is the best part. We use only the best-quality part of the hide to make our dog chews, no trimmings or other “surplus” products. These “surplus” products are taken to a waste processing plant and are used to make organic fertiliser for Finnish fields.”

For Phoebe and Frank, we bought the MOOSE 25, which is suitable for medium dogs. It’s just the right thickness of hide rolled up into a long-lasting chew, with layers that ensure that the treat withstands the chewing power of bigger dogs.

Depending on the size of your dog and their penchant for gnawing, these chews can easily last well over an hour in total, which can be split into multiple sessions. Because of their longevity, it means they’re not only fantastic for removing plaque and preventing conditions like gingivitis, but are calm-inducing, too, releasing happy hormones for your pooch, making them mentally stimulating and delicious in equal measure.

What’s more is that they don’t contain any allergens, making them suitable for dogs with sensitivities. And despite their long chew-time, they’re still a light and low calorie treat.

If you’re on the hunt for a genuinely long-lasting, allergen-free, and environmentally conscious treat, MOOSE 25 from RAUH! offers a chewy challenge that is the perfect alternative to harmful rawhide.
