Seven reasons we love Tug-e-Nuff toys for Staffies

Playing a game of tug in the garden is an essential part of a daily schedule if you’re a Staffy. It’s perfect if you can fit it in around 1pm, after they’ve had their big stretch and a sploot, but before their afternoon nap in front of Dickinson’s Real Deal.

We recently came across tough toy enthusiasts and training experts Tug-e-Nuff who not only create fun and engaging toys to mentally stimulate your dog, but valuable training aids that can help with behaviour and building a bond with your pet.

Founded in 2009 by agility experts and professional trainers Matt and Theresa, the brand now sells tens of thousands of toys to dow owners in 36 different countries each year.

The Devon-based business uses quality, sustainably-sourced materials to create their high quality and high value toys, which are handmade at their Exmouth HQ on the Devon coast.

Phoebe and Frank have been testing out their Faux Fur Squeaky Chaser, PowerBall Bungee and The Clam, and we’ve had the best time developing our training, growing confidence and offering fun, safe and interactive stimulation with toys that are truly designed with dogs like Phoebe and Frank in mind.

It’s no easy task to find tough, durable toys that are actually fun to use and play with, and that stand the test of time, but Tug-e-Nuff have managed to do just that, earning them more than 5,000 five star reviews online.

So, here are seven reasons why we love Tug-e-Nuff toys for Staffies and bull breeds:

Turbocharge training

Our Tug-e-Nuff toys quickly became a high value reward that Phoebe and Frank will jump through hoops to get. As a result, it makes training extremely effective. Because Phoebe and Frank haven’t got access to their toys all of the time, they get very excited to play with them, and know that they’ll have to work hard and focus to be rewarded with one of their Tug-e-Nuff toys. The Clam in particular is less a training toy and more a tool, and can be used to offer instant rewards from a distance.

Boost your bond

Toys can be a really valuable tool for training and building a relationship with your dog, as well as helping them grow in confidence, which is where our favourite Tug-e-Nuff toys come in. According to Tug-e-Nuff, a whopping 80% of dog owners say they play with a Tug-E-Nuff toy to improve the bond with their dog.

When you are doing something that you and your Staffy enjoy, it will strengthen your relationship. Dogs really love to do things with their owners, and they feed off your energy, too.  If you’re having fun playing with your pooch, they’re having the time of their lives, and it’ll be written all over their faces.

Satisfy your staffy’s instinctive urges

Staffies love a game of Tug, and as they were bred for gameness, strength and determination, Tug-e-Nuff toys help tap into and positively channel your staffie’s energy. This could be through tugging and letting your dog win, which reinforces that playing is a positive and fun thing, or by tapping into their prey drive with fur or faux fur squeakers like with the Faux Fur Squeaky Chaser.

They’re durable

I can’t even tell you how frequently we’re replacing toys in our house. The average lifespan of a stuffed toy is around 72 seconds, while balls last a little longer but ultimately meet their end sooner rather than later. Tug-e-Nuff toys are built differently, though.

For example, the Powerball toys feature a ball manufactured just for Tug-e-Nuff, and co-founder Danny says it’s the ‘worlds best dog ball’.

He said: “For ball-motivated dogs, or for dogs that need durable tuggies with something ‘extra’, the PowerBall is a game changer. We set out to create the world’s most perfect dog ball – we think we’ve done it, and we’re pretty confident dogs everywhere will agree!”

Their bungee handle offers a comfortable grip and is made with two strands of shock cord, reducing the risk of jarring the handler’s shoulder or the dog’s neck during play.

They’re protected under guarantee

It’s important to Tug-e-Nuff that customers are completely happy with their products, so they offer a 45 day Tug It + Love It Guarantee and free UK returns. Though it is important to remember that all play should be supervised and interactive. Danny added: “They aren’t chew toys and you should never let your staffy play with them unattended.”

Help your dog grow in confidence

Frank wasn’t particularly a toy oriented dog until last summer when he became obsessed with balls. He would shy away from playing with Phoebe in the garden, and wasn’t as interested in playing tug. That was until we got Tug-e-Nuff toys.

The change we’ve seen in Frank has been huge and it’s been really encouraging to see him gain so much confidence through positive play. He particularly likes the Powerball bungee and will enjoy hours of fun in the garden ragging it around and playing fetch, too.

They’ve been designed with dogs in mind

Did you know that dogs are mostly colourblind? They can see a handful of colours, and Tug-e-Nuff have designed their toys in colour combinations that are easy for dogs to see, making play time even more fun.
