Soopa is a brand we’ve loved and used for years, with their healthy bites being super handy for topping up the treat jar, and their dental sticks offering a fun, vegan, low calorie reward for our dogs. And while we loved their range of dental sticks, we had found them to be more fun than functional, scoffed by Frank within seconds, and we all know we need our dog dental chews to be a bit longer lasting for them to do any real work.
When I was at Crufts earlier this year, I came across the Soopa stall and discovered their relatively new jumbo sticks. Designed for dogs over 25kg like Phoebe and Frank, their latest offering is big in both size and flavour, while keeping the calories low and chew time high. Consider our boxes ticked.
Grain free and hypoallergenic, the Soopa jumbo sticks come in three flavours: cranberry and sweet potato, carrot and pumpkin, and banana and peanut butter. Each £4.99 pack contains two sticks, which contain 265 calories each, but the real genius lies in the design.
The sticks have an adorable flower shape with a hole down the centre, which provides a dual-action dental experience. The unique grooves enable the treat to access even the tightest spots in your dog’s mouth, offering a thorough scrub as they chew, while the hollow centre keeps calories lower, making them a guilt free addition to your dog’s daily diet.
Each stick is made using natural, human-grade ingredients curated to promote health benefits and improve doggie breath. They’re suitable for dogs who suffer from obesity, kidney or liver disease, allergies, pancreatitis and low immunity, with the natural ingredients targeting specific areas. For example, cranberries, in the Cranberry and Sweet Potato sticks, are packed with antioxidants, fibre and Vitamin C which research shows may be beneficial for dental health, bad breath and immune support. And much like in human’s, it’s also said to be good for dogs prone to urinary tract infections.
Pumpkin seeds – featured in the carrot and pumpkin recipe – are known as ‘power seeds’, and are perfect for skin, coat, soothing digestion and may even help protect your dog against intestinal parasites and worms. Meanwhile, coconut oil can help boost brain power and turmeric reportedly has anti-cancer properties to help keep your dog healthy and happy.
Finally, Phoebe and Frank’s favourite, was the banana and peanut butter stick. Peanut butter contains healthy fats and Vitamin E which may help keep your dog’s coat healthy and shiny, plus bananas are a good source of vitamins and fibre to help keep the digestive system happy.
But the ultimate test – the chew time. Previously, dental sticks would vanish within seconds for our enthusiastic chewers, Frank and Phoebe. However, with the Soopa Jumbo Sticks, their enjoyment extended well beyond five minutes each, which I was pleasantly surprised by. As such, they’ve quickly found themselves on our ‘to repurchase’ list.
All of the recipes are vegan and low fat, as with all of the Soopa range. Founder Barbara decided this would be the case with all Soopa treats, using fresh fruit and vegetables to create simple, delicious and nutritious recipes.
She explained: “It was during my time working in my previous dog grooming business I was shocked to see so many dogs suffering from commercial pet food related illness such as; obesity, diabetes, chronic itching and skin allergies. I wanted to offer dog owners a super healthy treat they could give to their dog guilt free that was low calorie, nutritious and also delicious. I knew dogs loved fresh fruit and vegetables so I got to work and after lots of time spent in the kitchen and many trials and testing the Soopa chew was born.”
The Soopa jumbo sticks offer a guilt-free, super healthy treat that’s as delicious as it is beneficial. They have proven to be a game-changer for our dogs’ dental care routine, battling plaque while bursting with flavour. Iif you’re looking for a treat that combines fun and functionality in the most wholesome way, the Soopa Jumbo Sticks are the ultimate choice. Try them for yourselves here.
