TastyBone: one of the most impressive long-lasting dog toys that’s chew test approved

When I came across TastyBone at Crufts this year, it’s safe to say that I was a little sceptical. As the owner of two power-chewing Staffy crosses, I know all too well the disappointment that ‘tough’ toys lasting all of 30 minutes brings.

I had questions – and a lot of them – are they safe? Are they edible? Will they damage teeth? Will my dog destroy it in the space of an hour? But the sales representative was only too happy to answer each and every one of them with total confidence, leaving me a peculiar combination of shocked but satisfied. Not only had he put all of my concerns to bed, he’s also informed me of the 100-day guarantee on some of the products, to which I told him, “If there is any dog that can prove your brand wrong, it’s mine.”

At this point, it became something of a challenge – I bought two for £12 as they were on special offer for the event – roast chicken and thyme for Frank, bacon for Phoebe (I’d be lying if I said I didn’t choose based on colour alone).

And now – almost a month later having had their TastyBones every single day for 30 or so minutes at a time – they’ve been added to our list of top three ‘indestructible toys’ alongside the likes of GoughNuts and the Boomer Ball.

For extreme power chewers like Phoebe, but particularly like Frank, TastyBone offers a range of tough and durable chew toys that are sure to meet their natural urge to gnaw. The bones are made from 100 per cent virgin nylon that has not been recycled, which sets them apart from other nylon products on the market that have been chemically treated and could potentially be contaminated from prior use.

What’s more is that because it’s made from Nylon and the human consumption grade flavours it means it contains no animal content, salt, sugar, additives or preservatives, and is free from wheat, meaning they’re even suitable for dogs with allergies. Plus, they’re zero calories, perfect for porkie pooches who may need to watch their diet.

Speaking of flavours, there are so many to choose from, ranging from classic Beef to exotic Hoisin Duck. And instead of being a one-minute wonder, the flavouring is infused throughout the whole bone, rather than simply sitting on the surface, which means the flavour will last for the lifetime of the bone, so your dog will never get bored of it.

Moreover, providing you choose the correct size that’s appropriate for your dog, the TastyBone is suitable for all breeds no matter their jaw strength, and has undergone rigorous testing to ensure they can withstand the most enthusiastic chewing sessions.

The brand added: “We are so confident in the quality of our products we offer a 100 day guarantee on all Nylon Trio Bones, meaning that if by some chance a dog is able to chew through it, customers are automatically entitled to a full refund.”

But TastyBones don’t just serve as a fun toy, they also encourage and promote dental health and hygiene. The brand explained: “With every bite your dog’s teeth and gums become stronger, protecting against infections. Saliva produced when chewing helps to break down plaque and prevents the build-up of tartar, while grooves and ridges in the bones gently cleanse teeth and massage gums. Bye, bye dog breath.”

We did notice that Phoebe’s gums bled a little when she used her TastyBone, however, we’ve been assured that this is totally normal, and occurs typically when there is a build up of tartar on the teeth – much like with humans. I did also worry that said blood might dry up in the gnawed sections of the bone, but it cleans really easily just by running it under a tepid tap.

And my final concern was that Phoebe and Frank would chew off and swallow chunks of the TastyBone, but again, I’ve been proven wrong. The bone is tough enough that only rice sized pieces shave off, but still soft enough so as not to damage teeth. These pieces are ‘completely safe for dogs to ingest and will pass through their system without causing harm.’

As such, the TastyBone will reduce in size over time, though ours is yet to shrink – but when it does and becomes smaller than the dog’s mouth, it should be removed and disposed of, however I think we have more than a few good months of chew time left before that happens. So while this isn’t ‘technically’ an indescribable toy, it’s still insanely long-lasting considering most toys never get the chance to make it back into the toybox after one play.

Every single time I give Phoebe and Frank their TastyBones, I’m stunned each time I take them back and they’re still fully in tact. They both get so excited to play with their toy and even ‘ask’ for it after tea time if we haven’t given it to them in the day.

A month on, the bones are still almost full-sized and I can see them lasting the guys months, and when the time comes, I’ll 100 per cent be making a repeat purchase.

If you’re searching for a chew toy that can stand up to the might of your power-chewing pooch, look no further than TastyBone. While I may have been unconvinced at first, I’m not afraid to say I was very much proven wrong, as they really are a revolutionary toy that will keep your canine companion entertained for hours on end.
